Another study was published in the Journal of Pediatrics showing the link between excess weight gain and the consumption of fruit juices.
Most commercial fruit juices are NOT healthy! How much stronger do I have to say it. Please don’t confuse fresh squeezed juice with the sugary fruit juices that are sold in stores. They are two completely different things. The fresh squeezed juices are completely acceptable….although I would recommend eating the fruit as opposed to drink all the juice, because you also want to get the additional nutrients and fiber found in the pulp.
But fruit juices marketed and sold to children and teenagers are loaded with high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), which are the biggest culprit among us. Years ago, fruit juice was made with sugar, sucrose. But since the 80,’s almost every beverage in America has switched from sucrose to ‘high fructose corn syrup’ which is chemically altered sugar.
HFCS is a lot cheaper than sucrose and is a lot sweeter. Worse of all it has an incredibly high glycemic index food and we all know that high glycemic foods are leading the way for weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. So when your kids drink these products and overwhelm their blood sugar with this huge surge of insulin, is it any wonder why the rate of diabetes, high blood pressure is climbing so fast.
Guys, we have to keep those types of beverages out of our house. Water is one of the best and healthiest drinks we can have. An occasional fruit juice or soft drink is OK, but when it is an everyday event and you add two or three of them you are definitely letting your kids go down the wrong road of health. Let me also mention that when their blood sugar is going all over the place because of all those fruit juices and soft drinks they are drinking….there is a huge correlation with ADD and ADHD.
